AN AGENT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE AUTOMATIC
1 min read
“Agent” is often understood as AI that runs completely on its own.
It does not have to be.
There are several levels.
Level 1 — Assistant
The AI carries out a task when the user asks.
Level 2 — Structured Agent
The AI carries out the task following fixed Instruction, Knowledge, and workflow.
Level 3 — Tool Agent
The AI can proactively use Tools while carrying out the task.
Level 4 — Automated Agent
The Agent is triggered automatically and can carry out a workflow without the user directing each step.
A more automated system is not necessarily better.
The level of automation should depend on:
the risk of the action + the ability to check the result.
