TOOL POLICY
1 min read
Having a Tool does not mean the Agent may use it freely.
The Instruction needs to state clearly:
When to use a Tool → which Tool to use → how the Tool’s result is handled.
For example:
WEB SEARCH:
Use only when the request depends on current information or data not already in the Context.
CODE:
Use for calculations or data processing when accuracy is needed.
KNOWLEDGE:
Prefer the Knowledge Base when the question concerns internal methods.
Don’t use the model’s memory in place of current data
For example:
If the question depends on current data:
- Do not answer from the model’s memory.
- Fetch the data through a Tool or a provided source.
This is an important Rule for:
- finance;
- legal matters;
- policy;
- prices;
- products;
- news;
- operational data.
